Online Banking- computer, card, and phone

Are you aware the FBI warned of search engine ads when you search for your bank online? When you search for your bank, a search engine advertisement may pop up promoting websites that distribute ransomware or steal login credentials. Online banking can have its risks, so it is important to be aware and equipped to handle them.

How Threat-Actors Operate

  • Impersonating Banks: Threat-actors impersonate banks, and their ads appear legitimate.
  • Cloned Websites: The ads often lead to pages that look identical to your bank’s official webpage.
  • Redirecting Users: Although the URL may appear legitimate, you could be redirected to a cloned site under their control.

Warning Signs

If your screen locks up asking you to:

  • Input credentials,
  • Visit another site, or
  • Contact a phone number,

Take Immediate Action:

  • Call your IT provider immediately.
  • Do not turn off the computer.
  • Do not press ctrl-alt-delete.
